CEDARBURG, Wis. (AP) - State Rep. Duey Stroebel says he respects both of the other Republican candidates in Wisconsin’s 6th District congressional race and he expects the primary to focus on the problems in Congress, not opposition between them.

Stroebel issued a statement Tuesday as state Sen. Joe Leibham joined the race to replace longtime Rep. Tom Petri.

Petri announced earlier this month that he will not seek re-election. State Sen. Glenn Grothman also has declared his candidacy in the race.

Stroebel says Leibham and Grothman are both good people, but they’ve spent years in government and he doesn’t think voters should trade one longtime politician for another. Stroebel has been in the Wisconsin Assembly only since 2011.

Stroebel also says his private business experience also will help in tackling federal budget problems.
