MOORESVILLE, N.C. (AP) - Downtown Mooresville will be booming next month.

The Charlotte Observer reports (https://bit.ly/1rfu5Iz ) the Mooresville Board of Commissioners has unanimously agreed to allow the producers of the Cinemax series “Banshee” to conduct late-night simulated gunfire, explosions and fist fights in downtown Mooresville. It’s scheduled from June 12 to July 11.

Town Manager Erskine Smith has the go-ahead to work out terms of a permit allowing Charlotte-based Screaming Spirit Productions to discharge gunpowder and other combustibles on town streets.

“Banshee” filmed in Mooresville its first two seasons and is returning to shoot a scene over about 14 nights for its third season.

The series is about an ex-con and master thief who assumes the identity of the sheriff of the fictional town of Banshee, Pa.

Commissioner Thurman Houston, who lives two blocks from the planned filming, said he was startled when he returned home one night during a previous season of filming. With no advance warning, he said, the road was blocked, and he could hear gunfire.

“We have a lot of senior citizens in that area, and it’s the fear factor,” Houston said.

Screaming Spirit location manager Rachael Tartell said letters will be placed on the front doors of homes in at least a five-block radius to alert residents to the sounds.
