ROCHESTER, Wash. (AP) - A Washington state Gambling Commission spokeswoman says one man has been arrested and about 300 roosters have been seized from a Thurston County property believed to have been used for cockfighting.
KOMO-TV reports (https://is.gd/z6A65N ) that spokeswoman Amy Hunter says the gambling commission served a search warrant Monday on a home in the Rochester area after receiving several tips from neighbors.
Hunter says a man who lives on the property has been arrested for investigation of various gambling and animal cruelty offenses.
She says the roosters are being evaluated.
The Thurston County sheriff’s office, Seattle Animal Control and the Department of Agriculture assisted.
Cockfighting is a Class C felony in Washington, punishable by a maximum 5 years in prison and a $10,000 fine.
