TULSA, Okla. (AP) - The Tulsa Police Department is set to add 16 more officers to the police force.

A graduation ceremony for the new members is scheduled Friday morning at the Tulsa Police Training Academy.

The recruits began their 27-week training course last October. They have since completed more than 1,000 hours of instruction - which included training in legal, firearms, defensive tactics, driver’s training, report writing and officer survival.

The recruits will become officers-in-training after the graduation and complete a 16-week training program with field officers.

After field training, the new officers will be assigned to fill vacancies in the department’s three patrol divisions.
