PLYMOUTH, Mass. (AP) - A veteran Plymouth police officer has died after his motorcycle crashed.

Chief Michael Botieri identified the officer as 43-year-old Gregory Maloney, a 17-year veteran who was married with two teenage sons.

The chief says Maloney was on duty riding westbound on Samoset Street at about 2:15 p.m. Tuesday when his bike went down.

Maloney was flown to Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston where he was pronounced dead several hours later.

Botieri says another officer on a motorcycle was riding alongside Maloney at the time, but it does not appear as if the two bikes made contact.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
