SPARTA, N.J. (AP) - Authorities say a woman and her young son were seriously injured when their car flipped over and took down two utility poles before slamming into a tree.
Sparta police tell The Star-Ledger (https://bit.ly/1eMk0R5) that 26-year-old Anna Phillips of Rutherford was westbound on Sparta Avenue when she lost control of her car around 10:40 p.m. Friday.
The car swerved to the right, hit the utility poles and overturned before it came to a rest on a 45-degree angle against the tree, with the front of the car embedded in the ground.
Phillips and her 8-year-old son were entrapped in the car, hanging upside-down in their seatbelts. Two officers cut the boy loose, but Phillips had to be extricated from the vehicle.
Further details on their injuries were not disclosed.
