MINOT, N.D. (AP) - A state legislative leader says higher education in North Dakota is a big business and it needs some changes.

State House Majority Leader Al Carlson spoke in Minot Friday at the Chamber of Commerce. He said doing away with the current State Board of Higher Education and replacing it with a three-member board will help lead the state’s higher education institutions in a new direction. Carlson says higher education is now a $2 billion enterprise in the state and it requires full-time oversight by board members who must answer to the public.

KXMC-TV reports (https://bit.ly/1hconQ2 ) the question of whether to disband the current eight-member board will be on the ballot in November.
