MIDWEST CITY, Okla. (AP) - Rose State College officials say two grants have been awarded to help repair and preserve the home of the founders of Midwest City - Rubye and Bill Atkinson.

Grants of more than $52,000 from the Midwest City Memorial Hospital Authority and $35,000 from the Kirkpatrick Foundation were announced Wednesday to support work to preserve what is now known as the Atkinson Heritage Center.

The funding will be used to repair damages from recent storms and other extreme weather conditions that include ice, snow, drought, floods, high winds and erosion.

The home was deeded to the college and is now used as a meeting and events center and for historical archives.
