ROSEVILLE, Mich. (AP) - A Macomb County man will be sentenced in the beating of his elderly mother in a motel parking lot when she refused to let him use her car.
The Detroit Free Press reports (https://on.freep.com/1hVzzAG ) Wednesday that 36-year-old Thomas Gulas of Eastpointe entered a no-contest plea this week to aggravated domestic violence and malicious destruction of property charges.
A no-contest plea isn’t an admission of guilt but is treated as such for sentencing.
Gulas is to be sentenced May 14 in Macomb Circuit Court.
Evelyn Gulas was beaten and knocked to the ground in September outside a motel in Roseville, north of Detroit. She was 77 at the time of the assault and suffered head and face injuries.
Six cars in the motel’s parking lot also were damaged.
