BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) - Agriculture Commissioner Doug Goehring has awarded North Dakota’s first research grants to support and promote the state’s grape and wine industry.
The 2013 Legislature approved $80,000 for the effort. Goehring says the money will boost an already-growing industry.
North Dakota State University researcher Harlene Hatterman-Valenti is getting $66,500 and Carrington growers Lindsay and Mike Ostlie are getting $2,000 for research projects.
The North Dakota Grape and Wine Advisory Committee evaluated grant proposals and forwarded recommendations to Goehring.
