EL CAJON, Calif. (AP) - Closing arguments have been held in the murder trial of a San Diego County man charged with beating to death his wife - an attack police at first thought was a hate crime against the Iraqi immigrant family.
U-T San Diego (https://bit.ly/1hTHLSb ) says the defense for Kassim Alhimidi argued Tuesday that he had no motive to kill his wife and loved her. But a prosecutor said the marriage was troubled and Shaima Alawadi wanted a divorce.
Jury deliberations are expected Wednesday.
The couple’s eldest daughter found her mother in a pool of blood in their El Cajon (Kuh-HOHN’) home in March of 2012.
A note found near the body read: “This is my country, go back to yours, you terrorist.”
However, prosecutors say it was planted by Alhimidi.
