PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - North Kingstown police have agreed to drop charges against an attorney accused of allowing teenagers to drink alcohol at her daughter’s 16th birthday party.

Jayne Donegan on Tuesday agreed to donate $5,000 to a charity such as Mothers Against Drunk Driving in exchange for a social host charge being dropped.

Donegan was charged in January after police were called to her home and discovered teenagers had been drinking there. She was also charged with assaulting a police officer.

Her lawyer, William Devereaux (DEV’-er-oh), says some older teenagers had come to the party uninvited and brought the alcohol without Donegan’s knowledge.

Donegan entered a not guilty filing on the assault charge, which means that charge will also be dropped if she is not arrested in the next year.
