ROSELAWN, Ind. (AP) - A county coroner says a father and two of his children were killed in a crash amid a traffic backup on Interstate 65 in rural northwestern Indiana.

Jasper County Coroner Andrew Boersma says a third child injured in the crash was taken to Loyola University Medical Center in suburban Chicago. He says he didn’t know the severity of that child’s injuries.

State police say the family’s vehicle rear-ended a semitrailer early Tuesday near Roselawn, some 30 miles south of Gary.

Traffic was backed up because a tanker carrying nitric acid had rolled over a few miles further south.

The coroner says those killed are from Jasper County, but didn’t immediately release their identities.
