MAURERTOWN, Va. (AP) - Authorities are investigating a fire that destroyed the historic Alms House at the Shenandoah County Farm.
Media outlets report that the fire occurred Sunday morning at the 18th-century structure in Maurertown.
Shenandoah County spokesman John Collins says two people escaped the fire through a first-floor window. One suffered minor injuries.
The county-owned property had been used for transitional housing managed by Shenandoah Alliance for Shelter.
The Alms House was built in 1764. It was deeded to the county in 1798 to serve the poor.
