SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. (AP) - Shippensburg University students are finding a way to get the cafeteria’s leftovers onto the plates of hungry people.
WGAL-TV in Lancaster reports (https://bit.ly/1ey6wsw ) that the five-week-old volunteer program has saved 260 pounds of food.
For the past five Fridays, senior Christina Qawasmy (kuh-WOZ-mee) and some fellow students have collected uneaten food left after lunch. They’re boxing it up for the “Kitchen of Grace,” part of the First Church of God a few blocks from the university, where more than 200 people come each Friday for a meal.
The students are hoping to expand the program and are looking for more area churches that can use the food.
