HERNANDO, Miss. (AP) - DeSoto County is seeking an opinion from the state attorney general’s office on whether electronic cigarettes can be added to an existing ban on tobacco products in county buildings.
Board of Supervisors President Lee Caldwell tells The Commercial Appeal (https://bit.ly/1g7lGmL ) the county wants to what’s best for public health and also do what’s legal.
On March 17, the supervisors added e-cigarettes to the indoor-smoking regulations.
The e-cigarettes replace tobacco by heating a nicotine-solution into a vapor that is inhaled. The practice is increasing in popularity. The Food and Drug Administration plans to regulate e-cigarettes but has not yet issued proposed rules.
Board attorney Tony Nowak says there’s now some question about e-cigarettes under a smoking ban.
Nowak says he expects to hear from the attorney general’s office by June.
