SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) - The Spokane County Prosecutor’s Office says the fatal shooting of a Spokane homicide suspect by city police was justified.
Three officers shot and killed 21-year-old Justin Cairns on the front porch of his home last May. The prosecutor’s office says he disregarded their commands; told them, “Shoot me”; and then reached for something in his waistband, which turned out to be a cell phone.
Cairns was wanted in the shooting of 33-year-old Cyrus C. Jones earlier that morning.
The prosecutor’s office says the three officers - Jake Jensen, Danny Lesser and Adam Valdez - believed they were in mortal danger. Each fired multiple shots from their rifles.
