NEW YORK (AP) - The lawyer for a New York City emergency medical technician who police allege had two explosive devices in his home says his client only had firecrackers.

The Daily News (https://nydn.us/1n36YBh ) reports Saturday EMT Victor Cadicamo’s attorney told a Brooklyn judge Friday the explosive devices weren’t pipe bombs but rather were sparklers left over from his infant son’s birthday.

Attorney Oliver Storch said at the 29-year-old Cadicamo’s arraignment that weapons recovered at his Brooklyn home were just “inoperable props.” He said Cadicamo has an exemplarly record as an EMT.

Bomb squad investigators recovered the devices from Cadicamo’s home Thursday after police say they arrested him for threatening his wife with a gun.

The newspaper reports prosecutors told the judge a 9-mm handgun with a silencer and another weapon were recovered.
