ROCKY MOUNT, Va. (AP) - Health officials have declared a section of the Pigg River safe in Franklin County a week after 30,000 gallons of cow manure wastewater spilled.

The state Department of Health advised residents last week to avoid recreational use of a section of the river, including swimming, boating or fishing.

The Roanoke Times (https://bit.ly/1gS3b1R) reports those advisories have been lifted because the river’s water quality has returned to normal.

The wastewater spilled April 3 from a holding lagoon west of Rocky Mount. The spill entered a tributary of the Pigg River.
