KENNER, La. (AP) - Kenner police said they arrested a Metairie man who allegedly put a 65-year-old convenience store clerk in a headlock and choked her before stealing the store’s cash register.

The New Orleans Advocate reports (https://bit.ly/1hqDOJq ) officers were called at about 4 p.m. Wednesday to the KNM Convenience Store on Williams Boulevard.

Kenner police spokesman Sgt. Brian McGregor says 34-year-old Brent McConnell was found at a nearby apartment complex.



Investigators say he walked into the store and attacked the clerk.

After taking the register, McGregor says the suspect smashed it on the ground behind the store and fled with the cash inside.

McConnell was booked with simple robbery, simple battery of the infirm and simple criminal damage to property valued at $350.

It was not immediately clear whether he has an attorney.
