NEW YORK (AP) - A New York City woman rescued from a 50-foot pile of smoldering debris after a deadly gas explosion collapsed two New York City buildings has met her rescuers.
Carmen Quinones hugged the five firefighters Friday at a reunion at a Manhattan hospital where the 67-year-old woman is still recovering from a brain hemorrhage, a spine fracture and other injuries.
FDNY Capt. Robert Morris tells The New York Post (https://bit.ly/1oV3GC5 ) his team spotted Quinones through smoke, amid the rubble of the East Harlem blast site on March 12.
Morris says they quickly got to her and then put an oxygen mask on her.
Eight people were killed and more than 60 injured in the suspected gas explosion.
Investigators have discovered a leak in the cast iron gas main.
