GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (AP) - State regulators have suspended the liquor license of a popular Grand Rapids nightclub for three days, nearly a year after a customer fell down a staircase and died.
The suspension begins May 30 at all bars in The B.O.B., a four-story building in downtown Grand Rapids. State attorneys argued that Kevin O’Brien was drunk when he was served more alcohol. He died last May.
The B.O.B., which is owned by the Gilmore Collection, says an appeal is planned. Attorney Todd Dickinson says the Liquor Control Commission didn’t meet the standard for proving the 36-year-old O’Brien was visibly drunk.
Three people have died at The B.O.B. since 2009. The winding staircase was closed after O’Brien’s death.
