PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - Anglers, get out your poles.

Freshwater fishing season opens Saturday at dawn in Rhode Island.

The Department of Environmental Management says it stocked 80,000 brook, brown, and rainbow trout in ponds and streams in advance of the season.

It expects most of the state’s 42,000 freshwater anglers to turn out at dawn.

The department reminds anglers that a fishing license is required for anyone over age 15, as is a Trout Conservation Stamp for anyone who wishes to keep or possess a trout or to fish in a catch-and-release or ’fly-fishing only’ area.
