CRANSTON, R.I. (AP) - The Rhode Island Department of Transportation and state police are encouraging drivers to pay attention and drive carefully when driving through highway work zones.
WJAR-TV reports (https://bit.ly/1jy3eEq ) that it’s part of National Workzone Awareness Week. The station says that last year, six RIDOT workers were hospitalized after work zone-related traffic accidents. Nationally, in 2012, more than 600 drivers and road crew workers were killed in such accidents.
RIDOT Director Michael Lewis says we ask the men and women of his department to work on the roads in dangerous conditions day and night, and it’s our responsibility to keep them safe.
