BILLINGS, Mont. (AP) - A South Dakota woman has pleaded not guilty in the death of a Montana woman on the Northern Cheyenne Indian Reservation.

Forty-one-year-old Eugenia Ann Rowland of Pine Ridge appeared Friday before U.S. Magistrate Judge Carolyn Ostby.

Ostby told Rowland she could face life in prison if convicted of second-degree murder and appointed a public defender to represent her.

Rowland was arrested in South Dakota last month in the death of 21-year-old Hanna Harris, who went missing July 4 in Lame Deer. Her body was found several days later near the town’s rodeo grounds.

About a dozen relatives of Harris attended Friday’s hearing. Mother Malinda Harris Limberhand says she’s thankful for the prayers of supporters.

Co-defendant Garrett Wadda pleaded not guilty on April 2 to first-degree murder and aggravated sexual abuse.
