CHICAGO (AP) - Gov. Pat Quinn calls late disc jockey Frankie Knuckles of Chicago a “true music trailblazer.”
The governor issued a statement Tuesday after Knuckles’ death on Monday. Knuckles was known as the “Godfather of House Music” and has a street named after him near downtown Chicago. He’s famous for developing House music in Chicago and New York clubs.
Quinn says Knuckles is a “proud son of Illinois.”
Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel issued a statement too. He says Knuckles was one of the city’s “most treasured cultural pioneers.”
