Bail was denied for a Sierra Leone man before he goes to trial on U.S. charges that he tried to broker a deal to ship uranium ore to Iran, The Associated Press reported.
Patrick Campbell, 33, of Freetown, Sierra Leone, has been charged with trying to violate the U.S. embargo against Iran, the report said. He will enter a plea next week.
Mr. Campbell reportedly was working with a South Florida-based broker to ship tons of uranium ore, which can be used to make nuclear weapons, to Iran.
The broker was an undercover U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent, the report said.
Agents found uranium samples in Mr. Campbell’s luggage after he was arrested in August at New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport, AP reported.
