A 35-year-old woman was attacked and killed by a wildcat at an Oregon animal sanctuary on Saturday night, authorities said Sunday.
Sgt. Robert Wurpes of the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office said the attack happened at WildCat Haven in the suburban Portland community of Sherwood.
The facility is not open to the public but does provide on-site tours to donors, The Associated Press reported. The woman was an employee at the sanctuary.
WildCat Haven is a no-kill, last-hope sanctuary for cougars, tigers, bobcats and other big, wild cats. As of this summer, 67 animals were at the sanctuary, KOIN-TV reported.
Police said the animal was locked in a cage after the attack.
