Minn. Rep. Michele Bachmann is calling on N.Y. Rep. Charlie Rangel to apologize for racial comments he made about tea party supporters on Friday.

Mr. Rangel told the Daily Beast that tea partyers are the same type of people who fought against the Civil Rights Movement.

“It is the same group we faced in the South with those white crackers and the dogs and the police,” the Democrat said. “They didn’t care about how they looked. It was just fierce indifference to human life that caused America to say enough is enough.”

Mrs. Bachmann, an avid tea party supporter and founder of the Tea Party Caucus, tweeted Friday that she is willing to set up meetings for Mr. Rangel to explain his divisive statements.

“Charlie Rangel should apologize to tea party members. I’ll set up meetings so he can explain his outrageous comments,” she said, linking to a Talking Points Memo article.

Mr. Rangel also had some choice words for Republicans.

“What’s going on is sabotage,” he said. “Terrorists couldn’t do a better job than the Republicans are doing.”
