Derwood man drowned in his pool

Montgomery County police say a 59-year-old man drowned Sunday afternoon in the pool at his Derwood home.

Authorities responded to the 7000 block of Needwood Road at 3:15 p.m., after a family member noticed Mojtaba Tehrani Kia was in the pool but appeared lifeless, police said. First responders attempted to save him, but he was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital.

Police said Kia had been working in his backyard for several hours before the incident. He was found in swim trunks, with a towel and sandals nearby, police said.

Police said there is no suspicion of foul play. The medical examiner’s office will determine the cause of death.
