A 15-year-old Northwood High School student was stabbed in the buttocks by a fellow student, Montgomery County police said.
Police spokeswoman Rebecca Innocenti said the stabbing occurred at about 10:59 a.m. Monday in a hallway outside the school’s cafeteria.
The suspect, identified by police as 18-year-old Chidat Tarawally of the 12500 block of Winexburg Manor Drive in Silver Spring, was apprehended at the Silver Spring school after police set up a perimeter around the campus.
Police have charged him with first- and second-degree assault and possessing a weapon at school.
The male victim was most likely stabbed with a knife, police said. Authorities are investigating whether a knife found on school grounds was used for the attack.
She described the wound as a “minor puncture” that was not life-threatening.
Ms. Innocenti said police do not yet know the motive.
