The Metropolitan Police Department says a man died after fighting with four police officers and being placed in handcuffs.
Police say 38-year-old Anthony Chambers became combative with officers who were called to help staff from the Department of Mental Health about 3 p.m. Friday. Police say Mr. Chambers assaulted four police officers who eventually subdued him and placed him in handcuffs.
Officers say Mr. Chambers then lost consciousness and died at a local hospital. The cause of death is not known. An autopsy will be performed.
Police say the four officers sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were placed on administrative leave.
