WASHINGTON — Authorities say a deer that crashed through the front window of a southwest Washington library has been euthanized.

Police say the incident happened about 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Washington Highlands library on South Capitol Street. Library spokesman George Williams says the library was not open to the public at the time and there were no patrons inside.

Williams says animal control officers euthanized the deer after determining it had broken its jaw.

Washington Highlands is an interim library that is being used until a new Bellevue neighborhood library is constructed on Atlantic Street.

The library will be closed Wednesday.
