D.C. Mayor Vincent C. Gray says his administration will fill the deputy chief of staff position suddenly vacated by Andi Pringle, who resigned Wednesday amid reports she voted in September’s D.C. primary while living in Maryland.
Mr. Gray said he could not provide a timetable for when they would find the “right person” for the job.
“Obviously, we didn’t identify anybody because we did not intend on having to address this,” Mr. Gray told The Washington Times on Thursday after a job-creation event at the D.C. Chamber of Commerce.
He said the new person would likely fill the community outreach role Ms. Pringle had been picked to perform.
Mr. Gray introduced Ms. Pringle on Aug. 30 alongside Mr. Gray’s new chief of staff, Christopher Murphy.
However, research by D.C. Watch’s Dorothy Brizill revealed the voting discrepancy — Ms. Pringle said she had lived in Montgomery County for the past 18 months but intended to move back to the District — within days of the hire.
Ms. Pringle submitted her letter of resignation on Wednesday.
Asked if it was the right outcome to the situation, Mr. Gray said “yes and no.”
“No,” he said, in the sense that “we wish it hadn’t happened.”
Nonetheless, Ms. Pringle recognized the issue had become a “distraction” within the administration, he said.
