HONOLULU (AP) - Two University of Hawaii football players have pleaded not guilty to assault following a Waikiki nightclub fight.
Outside linebacker Aaron Brown and receiver Darius Bright were each charged with third-degree assault after police said they struck a 22-year-old man in the face. Both players were suspended for Hawaii’s season opener against Washington after the incident.
Attorney Paul Cunney told KITV ( https://bit.ly/qcqZlC) on Tuesday his clients acted in self-defense.
Third degree assault is a misdemeanor, punishable by up to one year in jail and a $2,000 fine.
The players’ next hearing is scheduled for Oct. 18.
Brown led the Warriors with five sacks and ranked third with 83 tackles last season. Bright redshirted last year after playing two seasons for City College of San Francisco.
