Adele’s album “21,” the most popular of 2011, was nominated for an album of the year Grammy on Wednesday.

The mournful disc about a broken relationship faces competition from the Foo Fighters’ “Wasting Light,” as well as Lady Gaga’s “Born This Way.” Other nominees were Bruno Mars’ “Doo-Wops & Hooligans” and Rihanna’s steamy “Loud.”

Lady Gaga’s nomination marks the third straight year she’s gotten an album of the year nod in her young career.

Adele now has three nominations on the night, including record and song of the year for “Rolling in the Deep.” Also nominated three times was Bon Iver, up for best new artist and also record and song of the year for “Holocene.”
