D.C. area deals with snow, snarled traffic

WASHINGTON | Residents in the D.C. area are struggling to cope with the latest wintry blast.

Usually traffic-choked Tysons Corner, Va., succumbed to total gridlock as the snow hit at the start of the afternoon rush Wednesday. Even when cars had a few inches to move forward, they skidded out on even the gentlest slopes. Fender benders abounded and a few hardy souls abandoned their cars and set out on foot.

One man said stomped through slush on the side of a Leesburg Pike bridge over the Capital Beltway. Cars around him were at a standstill while he made slow but steady progress.

Fifty-five-year-old Dan Willett of Silver Spring was headed home on Metro a couple hours early Wednesday afternoon. But he didn’t need to head out for snow supplies as he planned to stay inside once he got home.
