The death of a 91-year-old German-born journalist and former Washington Times columnist is being investigated as a homicide, D.C. police said Sunday.
Viola Herms Drath was found dead in her Georgetown home Friday morning. Metropolitan Police Department officers arrived at her home, in the 3200 block of Q Street Northwest, to find her unconscious. She was pronounced dead at the scene by a member of the city’s Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.
Police did not respond to calls Sunday evening about why detectives are now investigating the death as a homicide.
Mrs. Drath was a correspondent for the German newspaper Handelsblatt, wrote several books and reportedly was a member of the National Committee on American Foreign Policy.
