An off-duty federal police officer fatally shot an armed man involved in an assault at a Clinton gas station Friday afternoon, Prince George’s County police said.
The federal officer was at the Market Place gas station in the 9800 block of Piscataway Road when he witnessed a “violent assault” in progress, county police spokesman Cpl. Evan Baxter said.
The officer went to intervene and saw the man had a handgun, police said. When the officer identified himself as a federal officer the man turned toward him and the officer fired, striking him in the upper body, Cpl. Baxter said.
The man, who has not been identified, died at a local hospital. The victim of the assault was also transported to a local hospital but police had no updates on the severity of the person’s injuries.
The agency the federal officer works for has not been disclosed.
