WASHINGTON (AP) - Prosecutors are offering Redskins defensive lineman Albert Haynesworth a plea deal in a misdemeanor sexual abuse case
Prosecutors have filed paperwork in a Washington court saying that if Haynesworth agrees to plead guilty to a charge of simple assault they would drop the sexual abuse charge he faces. According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, the government’s evidence shows Haynesworth touched the breast of a server at a hotel restaurant in Washington in mid-February.
If convicted of the sexual abuse charge, authorities say, Haynesworth could face up to six months in jail and be fined up to $1,000.
Haynesworth’s attorney, A. Scott Bolden, declined comment on the case Wednesday in an email to The Associated Press.
Haynesworth has until May 17 to decide whether to accept the plea offer.
