OPINION:
For many of us, there is the great challenge of investing in and having access to environmentally conscious products (“Obamachine pulls the plug on appliances,” Comment & Analysis, Wednesday). The infrastructure for the evolution and availability of environmentally responsible products, such as energy-efficient appliances, is more crucial each day that we continue to buy, trade and sell countless other environmentally damaging products.
It is extremely important for our leaders today to make strides toward implementing standards that can create a competitive eco-friendly market. Today, we have dug ourselves a deep hole by allowing cheap labor and poor environmental standards to dominate our market. The harsh reality is that we cannot continue on this path of environmental irresponsibility, and there is a solid justification for the transformation of our market.
If it feels as though a rapid change is taking place, take note because there is. This change is happening in our social, financial and natural environment. Thus, we must be proactive and align ourselves to be part of these changes and not push against them. I wonder, who is to say the cost is greater than the gain in producing superior products that work to save our planet?
