How did you get started in real estate? I’m a former elementary school teacher and enjoy working with people and sharing knowledge. I also have always had a love of architecture and homes. Real estate encompasses all of those aspects. I decided to transfer my teaching skills into helping adults learn all they need to know about buying or selling a home, and to help them obtain the home of their dreams. I’m a good listener and I follow through. It was an easy transition.

How long have you been with the current company? I joined Pardoe and Graham 17 years ago; it eventually was acquired by Coldwell Banker.

Licenses and designations: Licensed in Virginia

Associations: Northern Virginia Association of Realtors

Awards: NVAR Top Producer, NVAR Lifetime Top Producer, Coldwell Banker President’s Premier, Coldwell Banker President’s Elite

Greatest accomplishment in the past 12 months: Maintaining my Top Producer status in this down market. A lot of it is due to referrals. My past clients have graciously trusted me and referred me to their families and friends.

What is your area of specialty? All of Northern Virginia, with a focus on Alexandria, Arlington and Fairfax County.

Most memorable house: My clients were an Alexandria family with four children; the mother had just given birth and the father got transferred by his job and had to leave right away. I suggested to the mother that she spend the next few weeks with both sets of grandparents and let me take care of everything at the house. I went over there weekly, cleaned up and made sure everything was neat and tidy for showings. We got the house sold. The grandparents loved having their grandchildren around and the family had a wonderful time. I still get Christmas cards from them.

Worst experience buying or selling a house: Loan companies are so overwhelmed right now and so busy that the paperwork needed for a settlement did not arrive on time. The moving van was waiting and the family was in the settlement room. I just held it together, made quick hotel accommodations for my clients and took them out to dinner. I kept everybody happy and we got a closing the very next day.

Family: A wonderful son who is a young attorney in Washington.

Pets: An adorable little Schnauzer named Sassy.

Education: Bachelor’s and master’s degrees in education from James Madison University

Describe your personal dream house: A charming cottage by the sea I can look forward to enjoying in my retirement years.
