Kudos to Detroit’s Wayne State University for ending the annual Helen Thomas Spirit of Diversity Award (“Helen horribilis,” Comment & Analysis, Tuesday).

Ms. Thomas’ anti-Semitic remarks can only be described as vile and baseless. The concept of diversity is to create a climate of respect and tolerance among all groups of people. Ms. Thomas is no advocate of this ideal.

Ms. Thomas claims that leaders at Wayne State do not understand “inherent freedom of speech” rights. Perhaps Ms. Thomas would find the universities throughout the Middle East, such as those in Iran and Lebanon, more sympathetic and tolerant of her rights.
