How did you get started in real estate? I jumped into real estate right out of college. I have a degree in art history and am very interested in art and architecture; I wanted to be my own boss and did not want to be tied to a desk every day. As a native of the District, I know and love the city, so this career is a perfect fit.

How long with the current company? One year

Licenses and designations: Real estate salesperson in Maryland, Virginia and the District

Associations: Greater Capital Area Association of Realtors

Awards: Coldwell Banker President’s Circle

Greatest accomplishment in the past 12 months: No single event can be classified as such, but helping many more than 100 people buy and sell homes over the past two years has been hugely satisfying for me. Each transaction has represented an important life transition for the client, and it is great to be an adviser in the negotiations and decision-making process.

Area of specialty: Northwest Washington

Highest-priced home sold: $1,635,000

Most memorable house: It is great when you work with clients, get along well and help people realize their real estate dreams. Anne, my business partner, and I sold a house in Shaw to a great couple who looked for more than a year for the perfect project. They bought what was essentially a shell for $250,000. We helped them find a contractor, and they spent about $40,000 to renovate. The house is easily worth $400,000 today, and they are very appreciative of where they live. They weren’t out to make a quick buck but made a home for themselves and also will happen to profit someday - which is great.

Worst experience buying or selling a house: There is nothing worse than being mistreated by a client. A few years ago, over Christmas and New Year’s Day, I had a client who became very demanding and insisted on seeing property after property over the holidays. The weather was lousy, and she would insist upon going in the dark. I accommodated her schedule, as she implied that “homelessness” was looming, and I got her under contract. She then would call upward of 20 times per day and if I didn’t answer would call again and then send e-mail. It was simply crazy. She pulled out of the deal at the 11th hour of her last contingency and was never heard from again.

Describe your personal dream house: Architect Julian Abele’s Marly, which is currently the Belgian ambassador’s house at 2300 Foxhall Road. It’s a stunning and understated example of the 18th-century French style of architecture.
