Virginia GOP Gov. Robert F. McDonnell defend his efforts Sunday to have the federal heath-care law bypass an appeals court and go directly to the U.S. Supreme Court.
Facing questions from “Fox New Sunday” host Chris Wallace about whether he wants to “kill ’Obamacare’ before it gets rolling,” Mr. McDonnell said he only wants a final solution that every state can follow.
“Let’s create finality … so everybody knows,” he said.
Mr. McDonnell has advocated “fast-tracking” the case to the Supreme Court since Monday when a U.S. District judge in Virgina ruled as unconstitutional the provision forcing residents to buy insurance and assessing a fine to violators. The case was filed by state Attorney General Kenneth T. Cuccinelli II, a Republican.
The Justice Department wants the issue to be addressed by the 4th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals.
Mr. McDonnell also said Sunday that he wants Americans to have better access to affordable health care and to reduce medical costs, but the current legislation in unconstitutional.
“Ultimately, you have to follow the law,” said Mr. McDonnell, adding he has widespread support on the issue from governors across the country.
