SEEN AND HEARD AT RBC CENTER
RALEIGH, N.C. — The Washington Capitals were in college basketball country this weekend to take on the Carolina Hurricanes, and there are several players who have a keen interest in the NCAA tournament. David Steckel is in charge of the team/staff office pool, which he said has 17 entrants.
As an Ohio State graduate, Steckel was not happy about his Buckeyes dropping a first-round matchup with Siena. After the first day of the tournament, Viktor Kozlov correctly picked 14 of 16 games to lead the pool — but there is a little bit of a wrinkle.
“Viktor Kozlov is in charge of two sheets, and it is the one he submitted for [Sergei Fedorov],” Steckel said. “[Fedorov] is — how do I say this? — the money behind the operation.”
Steckel also said Shaone Morrisonn was the only person to pick No. 12 seed Western Kentucky to upset fifth-seeded Illinois.
ADD IT UP
While post-lockout rule changes have made points easier to come by, the Caps could break the franchise record for most in a season. That mark was set in the 1985-86 season, when the Caps collected 107 points.
