RUN OFFENSE D
In an early sign of how the night would go, Clinton Portis was fighting for a first down on his second carry when he was hit by Ed Reed, who picked up the fumble and returned it 22 yards for a touchdown. Portis did pass Larry Brown for second on Washington’s all-time rushing list.
PASS OFFENSE C
Terrell Suggs beat Chris Samuels and hit Jason Campbell’s arm on his third pass, which was picked off by Reed. Playing on a bad knee, Samuels injured his right triceps, while right tackle Jon Jansen sprained his left knee. Antwaan Randle El caught a 5-yard pass for the Redskins’ only touchdown.
RUN DEFENSE B
The Redskins stopped Willis McGahee cold on Baltimore’s first run, but rookie Ray Rice sprinted 21 yards on third down to set up Le’Ron McClain’s 8-yard touchdown on the next play. LaRon Landry forced McGahee to fumble to set up Randle El’s touchdown.
PASS DEFENSE C
Carlos Rogers played well early but was burned by Derrick Mason on the clinching 28-yard touchdown with 3:35 left. Todd Heap got open for 24 yards on a key fourth-down play. Safety Chris Horton suffered a stinger and didn’t return.
SPECIAL TEAMS D+
Ryan Plackemeier’s first punt traveled just 21 yards after being partially blocked. Suisham was wide right from 48 yards, the kicker’s fourth straight miss from beyond 26 yards before hitting a 43-yarder in the fourth quarter.
COACHING C
Offensive line coach Joe Bugel’s troops were overwhelmed by the Ravens’ aggressive 3-4 defense even before Jansen and Samuels were hurt. Greg Blache’s defense allowed a touchdown on the opening drive, a third-quarter field goal and a late scoring pass but still had a solid night.
