SEEN AND HEARD AT RFK STADIUM
Fans looking for today”s game on the tube will be disappointed. Today marks the only time all season Washington will not play on television. Fox was originally scheduled to regionally televise the game, giving the Nationals their only exposure on the Saturday afternoon package. Instead, the network dropped it from the schedule in favor of San Francisco-Milwaukee, a game featuring Barry Bonds” pursuit of the career home run record and the Brewers” chase of a playoff berth for the first time in 25 years.
QUOTABLE
“He”s playing as good or better as if we would have gone out there and signed a Triple-A experienced backup guy to backup [Brian] Schneider. That”s what usually those guys do; they don”t play that much, they hit in the .240s, .250s, if that, and play good defense. He”s done all that or better.”
— Manager Manny Acta on catcher Jesus Flores (.241, 1 HR, 10 RBI in 83 AB), a Rule 5 pick who has played sparingly but must remain on the major league roster all season
