While looking up the official odds for the 89th PGA Championship, the Rover stumbled across this humorous little nugget on the William Hill Web site.

Apparently, Alec Holden of Surrey, England, will be collecting roughly $50,000 (in U.S. dollars) today from William Hill for surviving to see his 100th birthday. A decade ago, Holden backed himself at 250-1 to reach the century mark. You’ve got to love the Brits. Not only will they bet on anything, they’ll issue official odds on anything. …

Just to give you some indication of how little anybody outside of seamhead nation cared about Barry Bonds’ homer saga, the Rover watched Barry’s 756th at a Tulsa sports bar hydrating some 100 sportswriters and only about three others looked up from their cocktails long enough to watch Bonds’ record-breaking dong. Has there ever been a more epic athlete so universally reviled?
