Sally Field, Steel Magnolias (1989) directed by Herbert Ross. It is the film adaptation of Robert Harling's 1987 play of the same name. The play and film are about the bond a group of women share in a small-town southern community, and how they cope with the death of one of their own. This film truly emphasizes the importance of female friendships, and has remained a classic since its release. Sally Field did not receive a nomination for her performance. Brenda Fricker, My Left Foot won for Best Supporting Actress
